The power is written as unbeatable and then the film beats it. Shaw absorbs Havok’s energy blast and puts it inside Darwin, which is the one thing he cannot adapt around.

Darwin is the only Black member of the first team and he is killed in his first scene, in the same sequence in which the film’s other Black character defects to the villains. It is the most frequently made criticism of First Class and it is a fair one.
