Starting from zero
In what order should I watch?
The first control changes the whole list.
- Release order is how things actually came out, from 2008 onward. It never spoils anything you have not reached.
- Story order is when events happen. Captain Marvel is set in 1995, so it moves in front of Iron Man.
First time? Start with release order.
How much of it do I want?
The second control chooses how much is included. Each step adds to the one before it.
- Films only is the cinema run on its own, which is the spine of the story.
- Plus series adds the television that carries the main story forward. Since 2021 it is not optional.
- Plus everything adds the shorts, the specials, the older television, and the films made by other studios.
To follow the whole story without getting lost, plus series is enough.
What are the separate universes?
Not everything here belongs to the same story.
- The connected run happens on one Earth. Twenty years of X-Men films and the Sony films happen on others, made by other studios under other licences.
- A few entries of the connected run are set elsewhere too, and say so on their own row.
Turn the third control on only when you want those as well.

The X-Men films, on another Earth
Twenty years of films made by another studio, with their own chronology. They are not a later part of the story above: they are a different one, and the two are only placed side by side here.
Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, on another Earth
Three films that follow one another directly. No source gives them years inside their own story, so what is recorded here is only that each is the sequel to the one before it.
The Amazing Spider-Man, on another Earth
Two films, the second the sequel to the first. Both versions of Peter Parker meet the third in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is why these Earths are in this catalogue at all.
Sony's Spider-Man Universe
A shared universe whose films number themselves: Venom first, Let There Be Carnage second, Morbius third, Madame Web fourth, The Last Dance fifth, Kraven sixth. That is the order they claim, not a claim about when they happen.
The Spider-Verse films
Animated, and a trilogy: each is the direct sequel to the one before. They visit other Earths rather than belonging to one of the runs above.
Not placed yet
No source gives these a position in a story, so they follow in release order. Some belong to runs nobody has charted here yet; some were never part of a shared story at all.
