A masked killer who treats the city as a gallery and the people in it as materials.
Bastian Cooper, known as Muse, is a masked serial killer in New York City who makes art with the blood of his victims. He attended a book signing for Heather Glenn’s book Live Without Fear: A Guide to Confronting Trauma at the Inkwell Gathering Space and told her he was a fan of her work. He is confronted by Daredevil after capturing Angela del Toro and starting to drain her of blood.
He is the first season’s answer to a structural problem. Born Again is mostly a story about a city government, and Muse is what that city government is failing to notice while it argues. He belongs to the oldest tradition in this character’s stories: the villain who is not a threat to the world, only to the neighbourhood.
Minor spoiler
Heather Glenn, Murdock’s partner through the first season, is stalked and almost killed by Muse. She takes on the mantle herself heading into the third season. The catalogue keeps Bastian Cooper and Heather Glenn as separate people because they are, whatever they have in common.
