A deaf woman who ran a crime crew in New York for the man who raised her, and went home when she found out what he had done to her father.
Maya Lopez is Choctaw and deaf, and the series built around her treats both as facts rather than as subjects. Wilson Fisk is her adoptive uncle. He took her in after her father was killed and made her useful, and the thing she learns in Hawkeye is that he arranged the killing.
Echo sends her back to Oklahoma, to a grandmother, cousins and a town that did not follow her to New York. Alaqua Cox plays her almost entirely without speech, and the series is confident enough to run long stretches with no dialogue and no score, which is a real risk that mostly pays.

Echo is the first Marvel Studios series released under the TV-MA label, and it is tied more tightly to the Netflix era than to anything around it: Fisk and Daredevil both come from there. It is also the point at which those series stop being a separate shelf.
