Ava Starr is a reimagining of the comics character Ghost: a woman with intangibility and invisibility. As a child she was caught in an accident in her father’s laboratory that killed both her parents and left her body in a permanent state of molecular disequilibrium.
That phrase is the character. She is not a thief with a gimmick, she is a person in constant pain who has been told there is one way to stop it, and Ant-Man and the Wasp is careful never to let her be simply the villain.
