A man who volunteered for an experiment because he needed the money and had run out of other ideas, and who came out of it stronger than everyone.
Bob is the most unusual superpowered character these films have produced, because his power is not the point of him. He has a drug addiction and no prospects, he signs up for an experiment run by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s people, and it works far better than anyone intended.
What the film does with that is the interesting part. His depression is not a metaphor sitting next to the plot, it is the antagonist: the Void is what happens when the worst of him takes the wheel, and the fight at the end cannot be won by hitting it. Lewis Pullman plays both halves without making either one a performance of illness.
