A billionaire who thinks humanity has run out of time on Earth, and who is right about almost nothing else.
Carlton Drake is a genius inventor and the head of the Life Foundation, running experiments on the symbiotes. Riz Ahmed plays him as a man trying to save the future of humanity, which is how the film wants him read: he believes Earth is finished and that merging with the symbiotes is the way off it.
Riot is the symbiote that takes him, and it is the one with a plan, which makes Drake less a villain than a vehicle. That is the film’s structural problem with him and the reason he is the least remembered part of it.
