A disgraced journalist is taken over by an alien that eats people, and the two of them come to an arrangement.
The film is less interested in being frightening than in the comedy of a man sharing a body with something that talks back and has opinions about his life. That is what its audience came for, and the film knows it.
It sits in yet another separate continuity, one built around Spider-Man’s supporting characters without Spider-Man in it, which is an odd premise the films never entirely resolve.
