An FBI marksman who never misses, held together by a therapist and a set of rules, and then handed to the worst possible person.
Benjamin Leonard “Dex” Poindexter is a psychopathic orphan and a highly skilled marksman capable of using almost any object as a lethal projectile. He had psychiatric therapy after killing his baseball coach as a child and, when his psychiatrist died, joined the U.S. Army and then the FBI, using the structure of both to keep himself in one piece. Then Wilson Fisk found him.
What makes him work is that the series shows the scaffolding first. Dex has a north star, a set of instructions and a voice on a tape telling him how to be a person, and Daredevil spends an episode explaining exactly how that was built before it shows Fisk taking it apart. The result is the best villain the run produced after Kilgrave.
Minor spoiler
Fisk puts Dex in a copy of the Daredevil suit to ruin Murdock’s reputation. At the end of that season Fisk breaks his back, and Dex returns in Born Again after surgery that enhanced his body.
