The oldest mutant in these films, who was worshipped as a god in Egypt and wakes up in 1983 with the same expectations.
Apocalypse is the largest threat the Fox films attempted and the least successful. The construction is sound: an ancient mutant who has survived by moving between bodies, who recruits four followers by giving each of them exactly what they are missing, and who genuinely believes the world is due a clean start.
Oscar Isaac is buried under prosthetics and delivered mostly in pronouncements, and the film ends up more interesting when he is offstage. The best of it is the recruitment, particularly Storm, because it shows what the offer actually is.
