X-Men: Apocalypse

An ancient mutant wakes up in 1983 having slept through several thousand years of history, and decides to start the world again.

En Sabah Nur ruled Egypt in 3600 BC and has kept going ever since by moving his consciousness into new bodies, which is a very long time to be certain about anything. He wakes in 1983, recruits four followers by giving each of them more of what they already are, and sets about clearing the board.

The film continues the prequel run into the 1980s and spends much of its length assembling the team that the original trilogy already had. It is the ninth film in the series and the one where the shape of the whole thing starts to strain.

The four prequel films step forward roughly a decade at a time: 1962, 1973, 1983 and 1992. The actors do not visibly age across those thirty years, which the series never explains and which is worth knowing before you start counting.
