Reed Richards is written here as a man whose first instinct is always to calculate, including about people, which is the trait the film keeps testing. His inventions have pushed his Earth’s technology decades past ours: flying cars, a space programme, a robot in the house.
Pedro Pascal plays him tired rather than arrogant. The film’s best decision is to make him a father before it makes him a hero, so that the offer Galactus brings lands on a specific person rather than on a principle.
