A rich man's son with wings he tried to cut off, and who was later given metal ones by someone who wanted a weapon.
Warren Worthington III is a wealthy mutant with large feathered wings, and the Fox films tell his story twice, with different actors, in what turn out to be different timelines. Ben Foster plays him in The Last Stand, with Cayden Boyd as the child, and Ben Hardy in Apocalypse.
The Last Stand opens with a boy shaving the feathers off his growing wings before his father walks in. As an adult he is strapped to a table to be given the mutant cure, breaks free, and throws himself from a window to fly to the Xavier Institute. In the battle at Alcatraz he saves his father from being thrown from a building.
In Apocalypse he is a young cage fighter whose wings are badly damaged in a bout with Nightcrawler, which sends him into substance abuse. Apocalypse finds him there, gives him metal wings and the name Archangel, and makes him the Horseman of Death. He fights Nightcrawler again in Egypt and is beaten when he crashes inside the X-Men’s jet.
Show detailsCut, and cut again
Wikipedia records that versions of Angel were written for the first two X-Men films and cut both times. It also records that promotional material said he would be killed by Sentinels in the future, a death no film shows.
