A commander who tells a soldier that her power is his gift and her feelings are her weakness, for six years, on purpose.
Yon-Rogg leads Starforce and prosecutes the Kree war against the Skrulls. While hunting the former Kree scientist Mar-Vell he encounters Carol Danvers, who destroys an energy core that gives her powers. He takes her to Hala, gives her a transfusion of his own blood to save her life, and has her memories altered so she believes she is a Kree called Vers. Then he becomes her mentor.
Jude Law plays it as coaching. That is the whole point of the performance: it is not menace, it is a man telling a woman to be less emotional and calling it training, every day, for six years.
Minor spoiler
At the end he challenges her to fight him hand to hand, without her powers, the way he taught her. She blasts him across the ground and tells him she has nothing to prove to him. It is one of the most direct endings in these films.
