Fantastic Four

Four people and the man funding them are caught in a cosmic storm in orbit, and all five come back able to do something none of them asked for.

It is the least cynical film in this part of the catalogue. Reed Richards, Sue and Johnny Storm, Ben Grimm and Victor von Doom take a trip to a space station, get hit by a cloud of cosmic rays, and come home changed, and the film spends most of its length on the ordinary business of finding out what that means before it remembers it needs a villain.

Ben Grimm is where it lands. The others get abilities they can hide. He gets a body he cannot leave, and the film gives him the only genuinely sad material in it.

Show detailsTwo things worth knowing

Johnny Storm is played by Chris Evans, six years before he became Captain America. The catalogue keeps both, in different universes, because both are real.

This was also the second live-action Fantastic Four film to be made, not the first. Roger Corman produced one in 1994, titled The Fantastic Four, which was never released and is therefore not in this catalogue: there is nothing to point a reader at.
