A New York paramedic starts seeing a few seconds into the future, and finds a man who has been seeing much further for much longer.
Cassie Webb does not want powers and spends most of the film treating them as a symptom. What she can do is see slightly ahead, badly and involuntarily, which is a much smaller ability than these films usually hand out and a far more interesting one to build a chase around.
The threat is Ezekiel Sims, who has the same gift with a longer range, and who is trying to kill three young women because of what he has seen them become. The film is the fourth in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and the one furthest from anything the label implies.
Show detailsSet in 2003, and not by accident
The 2003 setting was in the script from the start. The director wanted a timeless quality and built it out of music running from the 1990s to the edge of that year and vintage clothing, and it also lets the film be a story about young women who cannot simply text each other.
To be plain about it: critics panned it as one of the worst comic book films ever made, and it lost money. That is the record, and it sits here next to the premise rather than replacing it.
