A sixteen-year-old fan of the Avengers from Jersey City finds out that the family heirloom she borrowed for a costume is not a costume accessory.

Kamala Khan writes fan fiction about Captain Marvel, cannot get permission to go to a convention, and is the only person in her school who is more interested in superheroes than in the people around her. Then a bangle from her great-grandmother turns out to do something.

The series is warm in a way little else here is, and its most serious material is not the powers. It is the Partition of India, which the show reaches by following the heirloom backwards, and which it treats as the real inheritance.
