Anne Weying

The ex who wore the symbiote

Anne WeyingVenomEarth-688

A lawyer whose fiancé reads a confidential file over her shoulder and costs them both their jobs, and who keeps helping him anyway.

Anne Weying is an attorney and Eddie Brock’s ex-fiancée, and Michelle Williams plays her in the first two Venom films. In Venom she is preparing a lawsuit defence for the Life Foundation when Eddie reads a classified document of hers about its human trials and confronts its CEO with it. Both of them lose their jobs and she ends the engagement.

She does not leave the story. When the symbiote is killing Eddie she takes him to her new boyfriend, Dr. Dan Lewis, and uses an MRI machine to separate the two. Then, when Eddie is captured, she bonds with Venom herself to free him. The director Ruben Fleischer planned that as a wink at She-Venom from the comics, and Williams, according to Wikipedia, was excited about the idea of a future for it. Her line “I love you, but I love myself more” was hers, added as a reference to the MeToo movement.

Let There Be Carnage makes her Eddie’s lawyer. He asks her to find Venom, who has walked out on him; she finds the symbiote bonded to Mrs. Chen, talks him into forgiving Eddie, and bonds with him again long enough to get the two back together.

Minor spoiler

Cletus Kasady and Frances Barrison take her and Detective Mulligan hostage at their wedding in the cathedral, which is where the last fight happens.
