A private investigator with more strength than she has any use for, who is trying to work while the man who once controlled her mind is still alive.
Jessica Jones is the best written of the street-level characters because the show is not about her powers at all. Kilgrave could tell anyone to do anything and they did it, and he had her for months. The first season is about the years after that, and about being the only person who knows he is still out there.
Krysten Ritter plays her hostile in a way that is legible as damage rather than as attitude. The show is a detective story with an abuser as the villain, and it is careful about the difference between the two things.
