The Webb films

Peter ParkerThe Amazing Spider-ManEarth-120703

The second Spider-Man on film, whose story is built around a father who disappeared and a promise he makes to a policeman and then breaks.

Andrew Garfield’s Peter is the funniest of the three on screen and the one whose films around him work least well. The first is a solid origin with a much better performance in it than it needs; the second is overloaded with setup for films that never happened.

What redeems the run entirely is No Way Home, which finds the exact thing this version is for. He has spent a decade as the Spider-Man who was not there in time, and the film gives him the catch he missed, and Garfield plays it as the only thing that has ever mattered to him.
