Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The organisation Captain America works for turns out to have been run from the inside by the people he fought in the war.

The film swaps genre deliberately. It is paced like a seventies political thriller, its threat is institutional rather than alien, and its fight scenes are close and ugly rather than aerial.

It is also the film that does the most damage to the shared world’s furniture: an organisation the previous films leaned on is dismantled here and does not come back.
