An old, dying Wolverine drives a limousine and looks after the man who once led the X-Men, until a child he did not ask for arrives.
There are no costumes and no team. There is a hangover, a failing body, a caretaker relationship going badly, and a road trip that the film treats as a western rather than as an adventure.
It is the last appearance of a performance that ran for seventeen years, and it earns its ending by being about decline rather than about victory.

Logan belongs to the Fox X-Men films, made by a different studio under a separate licence, which is why none of these characters appear in the connected films of the same period. The two bodies of work only touch much later, through the multiverse.
Watching it requires nothing else. It is one of the few films here that works completely on its own.
