An office worker who finds corruption at her job, is framed for murder, and ends up the person in Hell's Kitchen most determined to print the truth.
Karen Page is an office worker at Union Allied who discovers corruption there, is framed for murder, and then becomes the target of an attempted one. Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson help her with the first and the vigilante with the second, and she joins them as their assistant, determined to take down the corruption in Hell’s Kitchen. Deborah Ann Woll plays her, and Woll said she wanted a Karen who could be a genuinely kind person and a little bit attracted to danger at the same time, looking for trouble rather than falling into it.
She works with the reporter Ben Urich to expose Wilson Fisk. When Fisk’s right-hand man James Wesley discovers the investigation has reached Fisk’s mother, he kidnaps her and tries to blackmail her, and she kills him with his own gun. It stays a secret. She quits the firm after learning Matt’s identity, and after Urich is murdered she becomes a reporter herself.
From there she is in most of the neighbourhood: The Defenders, both seasons of The Punisher, where she is the reporter who befriended Castle over his case, and Born Again, where she was not originally planned to be and was added after a creative overhaul, as Matt’s partner in the firm and then, in the second season, part of his resistance.
Show detailsWhat Woll did not watch
Woll does not watch the series, which Wikipedia notes helped in the second season, when Karen was unaware of Matt’s other life: she had never seen Cox in the costume. Her costumes were built around Karen’s own fantasies of New York, retro and slim, in the line of Katharine Hepburn and Lauren Bacall.
