A rescue in orbit goes wrong, something enormous gets inside Jean Grey, and the team has to decide what to do about one of their own.
It re-adapts the comics storyline that X-Men: The Last Stand had already tried to fit into half of a film, this time as the whole of one. Jean Grey absorbs a cosmic force during a mission and comes back with power she did not ask for and memories she was not supposed to have, and the film is about the people around her arguing over whether she is a patient, a weapon or a threat.
It is the twelfth film in the series, the fourth and last of the prequels, and the end of the road. It is also the first main entry without Hugh Jackman, which turns out to matter more than anyone expected.
