Thor: Love and Thunder

Somebody is killing gods, and the person best placed to stop him is a Thor who has spent the last few years avoiding the question of what he is for.

The antagonist has the strongest case of any in the run: he prayed, he was mocked, and his daughter died. The film is at its best whenever it takes him seriously and at its weakest whenever it hurries past him toward a joke.

It follows a film that reinvented this character by being funny, and repeats the formula without the loss underneath it. Watch it for the sequence in black and white, which is genuinely frightening.
